Does Kevin Lee really deserve a title fight this Saturday?
This Saturday Kevin Lee will Main Event his first Pay-Per-View fighting for the interim UFC Lightweight Championship. Though he has had an impressive come up as he is on a 5 fight win streak, I still can't help but to think to myself of all the guys to pick why Kevin Lee? What a division full of killers like Edson Barboza, Anthony Pettis, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Nate Diaz and all those guys are ranked higher than he is. What made the UFC pick Kevin Lee who is only ranked #7 and never beat a top contender?
Kevin has had an impressive come up as a nobody and building himself into UFC stardom. He has defeated impressive guys who he was supposed to lose to but Kevin would win and very dominant fashion. He is 9-2 in the octagon with wins over Efrain Escudero, Jake Matthews, and Magomed Mustafaev. Though all entertaining and tough fighters non of those guys are top contenders. No disrespect to him because I definitely respect him as an MMA Fighter but he's one of the last people I would've picked to fight for the interim title.
At this point, I feel the UFC management is getting lazy and the new owners don't know what they are doing. With speculations of Mcgregor/Diaz 3 in the works I feel there is no point and they should let Conor defend his title to the winner. It would've made more sense to give Nate Diaz the interim title fight so it could lead to Conor. The poor UFC matchmaking and lack of care by new management is killing the sport and could be the end of the UFC if it keeps up.
